Most Important Part of Wedding Planning: The Bride and Groom

Kate Carroll brought up an interesting observation in my video interview in a prior blog post with her and her husband Hayden. One piece of advice she passed along to those going through the wedding planning process now is to just enjoy the day and not worry if everything was perfect.

Kate, like so many other brides out there, have envisioned the perfect wedding day since they were little girls. In Kate's situation she had spent so much time worrying about the flowers for her wedding day that when they didn't turn out right she almost let that one detail ruin her focus on enjoying her wedding day. In retrospect she said it was a small thing and she was the only one that new that her flowers weren't right and it wasn't something that she should let ruin her day.

My wife and I experienced a similar situation on our wedding day 11.5 years ago. We had just been sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and were waiting to come outside to greet our family and friends, but there was one small problem. My wife's brother had her bouquet and he wasn't there yet. He finally arrived 30 minutes after we were set to come out of the temple and we waited until he arrived. During this time waiting my wife was frustrated and felt this had ruined her day. Luckily it didn't, but it did damper her mood for a while. Similar to Kate's retrospect, my wife now looks back and wishes she wouldn't have let that small situation have an affect on her mood. She just said to me the other day, "I can't believe I got so upset over a bouquet of plastic flowers. We should have just come out of the temple instead of waiting."

Often couples are so busy planning the perfect day that we often forget to realize that it doesn't matter what happens during the day as long as vows are exchanged and we become connected with our husband or wife in a new way.

To all of the couples out there getting ready to get married please stop and remember that your wedding day is about you. If something goes wrong and your day isn't the perfect day you imagined please don't let it ruin your day. Chances are no one outside the parents probably even know anything was wrong. Enjoy the special day that you get to enjoy spending time with friends and family to celebrate a new beginning. Remember to soak in every moment so you can relive it again and again every day for the rest of your lives.
