What Wedding Trends Are OUT in 2018?

In Linda Diproperzio's article 18 Wedding Trends That are OUT In 2018 she claims that one of the wedding trends OUT for 2018 is formal wedding dinners. She says the new trend finds people opting for a more casual atmosphere with appetizers and drinks, rather than a formal plated dinner. This is to leave more time and energy focused on dancing and partying.

In Utah the LDS culture (aka Mormons) tend to dominate the wedding scene and I don't think formal dinners/luncheons will disappear anytime soon from the Mormon weddings, but I have seen a trend recently of receptions focusing more on the dancing and partying aspect. When you think of the typical Mormon Wedding you probably picture a long wedding line full with parents of the bride and groom, brides maids and grooms men, and a long line of guests waiting to congratulate the couple. And you might even have to get through a few awkward introductions with the 8-10 people in the wedding line who you don't know. Who hasn't been there, right? However, over the last few years I have seen more wedding receptions in Utah going away from the traditional wedding line at the reception and infusing more life into the reception. After all a wedding is a celebration and means people should enjoy themselves.

For our wedding day my wife insisted that we have plenty of dancing. So there was a lot of dancing. Relatives still talk about our wedding and what we did was lay down the gauntlet that all other family weddings had to compete against, and boy did they. Each one tried to top the previous. And you know what, they were a blast and it was because it was a celebration. As a videographer the best wedding videos were the ones that created a fun atmosphere at their weddings through moving away from the traditional line where the bride and groom would wander through the reception and greet guests as they came in and there was lots of dancing that included the guests in the fun.

In Utah I don't think formal luncheons/dinners are going away, but I do think people are trying to find ways to up the party factor. My suggestion, lots of dancing. What else can you do to liven up the wedding celebration? Up the refreshment factor and make your reception unique.
